Channel your inner Punk Princess

Reds
Some say punk is dead, but given the subculture’s enduring contributions to high fashion, we’d have to argue otherwise. The anti-establishment/DIY attitude that was once spearheaded by the Sex Pistols and Vivienne Westwood can still be seen on the runways today, and as the subject of this year’s Costume Institute exhibition--Chaos to Couture--at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 9th, the influence of punk has never been more prevalent. As we consider how today’s designers, including Anna Sui and Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy, have appropriated this ripped-and-torn look for S/S 13, we couldn’t think of a more fitting subject for today’s Currently Channeling. The Inspiration Punk icons such as Sid Vicious and Joey Ramone may have made all the noise back in the day, but it was the subculture’s…

White Jackets Aren’t Just for Doctors!

Reds
Spring Has Officially Spring So It’s Time To Bust Out The White–Blazers, That Is We know it’s only April, but in our minds (and closets), as soon as it hits temperatures warm enough to forgo tights, we whip out our best whites. This year, our white item of choice is the blazer, which adds instant polish to almost any outfit. The trick to making sure your white blazer looks like a polished jacket and not a doctor’s overcoat is in the fit and the details. Make sure the blazer is extremely fitted–even if it’s a boyfriend style, the shoulders should be tailored–and look for options with fun details like leather piping or embellished sleeves. With options fromRebecca Minkoff, Rag & Bone, Theory, Haute Hippie, DVF, and Vince available to shop now, we’re sure you’ll find…

Brighten Up your Lace

Reds
Though white lace brings to mind bridal gowns and black lace tends to feel naughty, brightly colored lace is free of such associations. In attention-grabbing hues like crimson, citrus, and neon green, it offers a fun, fresh, and feminine way to amplify your everyday mix. These vivid pieces couldn’t be more perfect for all of summer’s al fresco events, which is why we’ve gathered some of our favorite styles, from a pair of tailored shorts to a swingy day-to-night dress, to help you shop the look now. And you’ll be happy to know that all of today’s picks are Under $100! The Inspiration For spring, Elie Saab presented one show-stopping moment after the next, but it was the designer’s Lace Dress ($6300) in Berry and Blush that had our jaws on the floor.…

Kenzo x Vans Collaboration

Reds
Contrary to popular belief, a leopard can change his spots--or at least make them brighter, as evidenced by Kenzo’s fourth and latest shoe collaboration with Vans. The collection is made up of six classic styles punched up with an oversized animal print, called the Clouded Leopard, which Creative Directors Humberto Leon and Carol Lim also used in Kenzo’s S/S 13 collection. The design duo’s supercharged pattern--in electric colors like ochre, orange, blue, and green--was inspired by their travels to the jungles in Thailand, and gives Vans’ street sneakers a modern and fashion-forward twist. Among our favorites? Starting clockwise from the top, the Authentic Sneakers ($125) in Kenzo Leopard Flame/Pool Green, Classic Slip-Ons ($125) in Kenzo Leopard Nutria/Spectrum Blue, Authentic Sneakers ($125) in Kenzo Leopard Pool Green/Flame, and Authentic Sneakers ($125) in Kenzo Leopard Peacoat/Spectrum Blue. Wear these kicks…

Bad News for Target?

Reds
Only 3 Items From The Kate Young x Target Collection Are Sold Out–Bad Sign? I’ve been lusting after the Kate Young for Target collection ever since the lookbook hit last month. Well, the collection finally arrived yesterday and it has me wishing I could go to prom all over again (something I thought I’d never say). The celebrity stylist’s collection features formal dresses and separates that look expensive, but won’t break your budget. The apparel ranges in price from $29.99 to $89.99, and jewelry, handbags and shoes from $14.99 to $49.99. But it looks like I may be one of the few people with a long Kate Young x Target shopping list. As of 1pm EST Monday afternoon, only three of the Kate Young x Target clothing items were sold out online and all of the shoes and handbags are…

Fancy Pants

Reds
Surely you’ve seen loads of side-stripe pants by now, but today we have a different iteration with more universal appeal—the tuxedo stripe. If you’re asking yourself what's the difference between the sporty stripe and the tuxedo stripe, think of it this way: the latter is menswear-inspired and takes cues from formal attire rather than the soccer field. Easier to wear than the season’s printed jeans, tuxedo-stripe pants offer a simple way to update your everyday mix. Even better, the trend translates seamlessly for the office (with tailored trouser versions a la Miranda Kerr) and the weekend (with casual denim styles as seen on Cara Delevingne), giving you plenty of ways to wear the look. On The Runway While Reed Krakoff served up a large helping of athletic-inspired silhouettes at his S/S 13…

Five Perfect Tees

Reds
Anyone who knows me will tell you I love a t-shirt. The staple is my all-time favorite closet chameleon--meaning it looks just as good worn with your most casual pieces as it does with your fancier, after-five essentials--and the styles I own get very little downtime. While most people associate tees with casual weekend looks, I prefer to wear them in a more professional or dressed-up scenario. Paired with the right components, such as the perfect pair of trousers, a slickly tailored jacket, and sexy shoes, a t-shirt balances out the look to make it feel effortlessly cool. Plus, the beauty of an excellent tee is that it also fits right in with a biker jacket and boyfriend jeans or can be tucked into a swingy summer skirt, so it’s a piece you can wear for work, play,…
