Many people find themselves becoming lost on this journey called life. The days of childhood are over and now we must acknowledge adulthood. Yes, the days of free living are now over and one must come from under the wings of their parents. Now we must work for a living, pay bills, and take on bigger responsibilities. During this major transition, I believe we learn the most about ourselves. People begin to learn what it means to struggle, to fail and try again until success is obtained, and the joy of reaching personal goals. All of these situations help the individual to mature over time, some faster than others.
We must become like a mature person, growing until we become like Christ and have his perfection…Speaking the truth with love, we will grow up in every way into Christ, who is the head. (Ephesians 4:13, 15 NCV)
Personally, I went through this exact transition over the last four months. One situation taught me the value of having a support system. In addition to God, my family provided me with the best support system anyone could ask for. I began to see that others were so consumed with their lives that my personal issues were of no concern. Talking to God and my family is what brought me through one of the hardest times in my life thus far. We all like to think and believe that friends can suffice in any situation, and for some this may be true. The ULTIMATE backbone in your life is God. When others let you down God will always be with you. He is there when you cry behind closed doors because no one else is around. When you need to vent, God is the person who will ALWAYS take time to listen. Of course family and close friends can give advice but we’re not always around these people at the exact moment we need them.
We are joined together in his body by his strong sinews, and we grow only as we get our nourishment and strength from God. (Colossians 2:19 NLT)
My definition of personal growth consists of finding out who you really are and the person you are destined to become. It’s not easy to do of course and this definitely takes time. In order to experience personal growth you will find that some people in your life will be left behind. Not everyone will want to grow up and put childish things aside. This is where you must separate yourself in order to find yourself. Your road to success should involve only those who desire to be successful as well. People who deal with drama, hate, and negative attitudes should be politely dismissed from your social atmosphere. God did not create us in a package, we were all made separately, and separation as we all know is a part of life.
I will bless the Lord who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me. I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. (Psalm 16:7-8 NLT)

  • Kaydee, I can definitely relate to this. The relationship I have with the Lord is the most important relationship to me and I credit that relationship with the personal growth I have experienced. Love this article! Very insightful.

  • Thanks! I believe that having a close and personal relationship with God is so important! I will admit that i held some friendships to high standards and started to think “I need to hold my relationship with God in that same manner”. Best decision ever!
