Whether you’re already scoping out holiday party ensembles or are just looking for a chic way to bundle up this weekend, this month’s edition of Styling Tips has a slew of sartorial suggestions you’re sure to love. Even if you don’t naturally have Kate Moss’ knack for accessorizing or Olivia Palermo’s eye for proportions, we promise you’ll be able to execute these seven outfit ideas with ease—simply read on for our ideas on recreating their enviable looks.
Tip #1: Try a pair of fancy pants for your next holiday fete.
We’ll never tire of our favorite LBDs, but some festive occasions call for a more impactful look. Opening Ceremony buyer Kate Foley had the right idea at the American Ballet Theatre’s annual gala in New York last month when she skipped a dress for a pair of striking emerald green Isa Arfen wide-leg trousers from the S/S 13 collection instead. While her pants were the focal point of the look, her sheer Opening Ceremony blouse, Delfina Delettrez Vanitas Mirror Charm Earrings ($986), Anndra Neen for Opening Ceremony Melted Mirror Clutch ($670), and Prada Black Suede Cutout Platform Sandals ($487) were equally enchanting choices that made for the ultimate party-ready ensemble.

Tip #2: Go for an intriguing finish with a double cuff.
Though we love everything about Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s outfit at the Hamptons International Film Festival last month, we were especially drawn to her choice of jewelry. To finish off her refined ensemble—which consisted of an H&M blouse, Guishem skirt, and Dana Davis’ Arta Booties ($495)—the actress stacked two gold H&M cuffs on her wrist. We think the simple yet unexpected jewelry choice added just the right amount of glitz to her muted color palette, resulting in an alluring look we’re excited to recreate.

Tip #3: Balance an oversized sweater with slim, cropped trousers.
There’s a reason Olivia Palermo is a fixture in our Styling Tips stories: her perfectly put-together outfits never fail to offer us wardrobe inspiration aplenty! This time around, we fell in love with her mastery of proportions at the launch party for the Elin Kling for Marciano collection in New York last month. We like how she juxtaposed the voluminous Jonna Oversized Sweater ($198) from said collaboration with the slim cut of her cropped pants, as it ensured a balanced look.

Tip #4: Create a nonchalant look with a mix of menswear-inspired staples.
Borrowed-from-the-boys looks are here to stay, and model Marine Vacth’s on-point ensemble at the Chloe S/S 13 show in Paris last month is a fantastic case in point. Why are we so enamored? Her loose-fit jacket and untucked shirt make the blazer and button-up combo feel less corporate, while her dark-wash jeans and black leather boots are also in keeping with the chic menswear vibe.

Tip #5: Spruce up an all-noir look with an animal-print coat and bright clutch.
If you find yourself constantly reverting to the fail-safe, all-black outfit, allow us to introduce an easy way to mix things up, courtesy of Kate Moss. The style icon was snapped in London earlier this month wearing a vintage leopard-print coat and carrying a vivid yellow Kate Moss for Longchamp clutch, both of which instantly energized her Bella Freud 1970 Sweater ($411), Siwy jeans, and vintage Azzedine Alaia boots, by giving the noir staples a healthy dose of personality.

Tip #6: Update your wardrobe with a printed blazer.
While a classic black blazer will always be a closet mainstay, a printed iteration a la Mandy Moore is a must-try this season. Attending the opening of Rag & Bone’s Los Angeles flagship store last month, the actress selected the brand’s Smoking Woven Coat ($995), Skinny Leather Jeans ($880) in Wine, and Harrow Boots($625), which she accessorized with Jil Sander’s Foldover Clutch ($990). While the blazer’s silhouette is sophisticated and timeless, the striped pattern lends the piece a modern vibe we simply adore.

Tip #7: Combine black skinnies with a light-wash denim jacket for a timeless result.
Elin Kling is a master at creating effortlessly chic ensembles, and the look she compiled for Paris Fashion Week in September demonstrates that fact perfectly. With the help of an Acne denim jacket and black Elin Kling for Marciano Emma Skinny Jeans ($158), the style blogger assembled a fuss-free take on the denim-on-denim trend. Additionally, we love how the outerwear’s unique flared sleeves adds a dash of avant-garde style to the overall look.
