Pink will be everywhere this month and I’m not talking aboutVictoria’s Secret either! October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and chancesare that we all know someone who has been affected in some way or another by thishorrible disease. My great aunt passed away in the 90’s and I have a friendwhose mother is a breast cancer survivor. The good news is that with the earlydetection and the advancements in medical treatments women are surviving at amuch higher rate than before.
I want to encourage you all to do self breast exams. The best time to examine yourbreasts is usually one week after your menstrual period begins, when yourbreast tissue is least likely to be swollen or tender. You should do thisregularly so it will be easier for you to notice changes in appearance orfeelings of your breasts. Also,we should encourage women over the age of 40 get a mammogram once a year.
I want to highlight some companies that are supportingBreast Cancer Awareness. So, if you want to support Breast Cancer Awareness,but you don’t know what to do I have listed a few companies that are offeringtheir support. Estée Lauder— Clinique, which is as part of theEstée Lauder brand, has two products for sale for the month of October. Theproducts are the Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion with a miniaturepicture frame key chain adorned with a heart-shaped ribbon charm and the otheris the Great lips, Great cause key ring lip gloss set that has a heart-shapedribbon charm. They are a limited edition and a part of the proceeds will go tothe Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

 

Bobbi Brown Cosmetics–Bobbi Brown cosmeticshas created a limited edition pink ribbon collection that features a pinklipgloss and lipstick duo. With each purchase, $10 will be donated to theBreast Cancer Research Foundation. Bobbi Brown is sold at most Macy’sdepartment stores and can be purchased online as well at www.bobbibrowncosmetics.com
Macy’s Department Store–Macy’s has designedspecial pink-themed clothing items and home goods for Breast Cancer AwarenessMonth. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Breast Cancer ResearchFoundation.
Coach–Coach has a special “Collection With ACause” line that includes watches, key chains, scarves, wallets, and handbags.During the month of October, 20% of the proceeds from this line will be donatedto the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. You can view the collection online atwww.coach.com
Panera Bread— Panera will be featuring pinkribbon shaped bagels for the entire month of October and proceeds will bedonated to local breast cancer awareness foundations.
Oh, and I cannot forget the men who are raising BreastCancer Awareness! This will be the third year that the NFLparticipates in Breast Cancer Awareness. For each game in the month of Octoberthe players will wear pink cleats, pink gloves, pinkchin straps, and the footballs will have pinkribbon decals. These items will be auctioned and the proceeds will go to theAmerican Cancer Society. Last year the NFLdonated more than $1 million.
