Now I don’t know about you, but I’ve been dying for a three day weekend and luckily for me Labor Day Weekend 2015 was EVERYTHING.
Labor Day, which was celebrated this year on Monday, September 7th, is a national holiday honoring the American labour movement and all of the hard workers in the USA.
In honor of being honored, I spent the weekend hanging out with friends, having one on one time with Netflix and paying a visit to every barbecue within a three block radius.
While enjoying all of the deliciously free food at a friend of a friend’s poolside barbecue party, I overheard two women in an intense argument with a man who just spilled barbecue sauce on one of their all white ensembles.
The man, who was very apologetic I may add, asked the women why they chose to wear all white attire to a barbecue party (cause you know, SAUCE), to which they replied “We had to because these outfits are brand new and you can’t wear white after Labor Day.”
I nearly choked on my potato salad when I heard that one because I just couldn’t believe there were still people alive who followed this fashion rule. I mean really?
I’m the type of girl who believes personal style > every fashion rule to ever exist. So if you’re like me and you know you’ll be wearing white after Labor Day and any other day you choose, read below.
White Blazer
For me, blazers are a wardrobe staple. I like to mix them up with everything from body con dresses to skinny jeans for a trendy, yet classic look. Lately, I haven’t been very inspired by the blazers in my closet and I think adding white may breath life back into my style. The white blazer shown above, is from LucLuc. You can also get the jeans from Topshop and the shirt from Yesstyle.com
White Jeans
I actually haven’t worn a pair of white jeans since I hit puberty in fear of you know who. But now that I’ve put my childish fears aside, I’m ready to revamp my style and add a new level of chic. Wear white jeans with a denim shirt and bold accessories for a look that works day and night.
Little White Dress
My closet is filled with more little black dresses than I care to admit to you right now. I used to wear them so much that they started to make me feel a little less than fabulous. When I decided to buy a little white dress I never knew just how much it would open me up to a new world of style possibilities. If you feel like I did, a Little White Dress can drag you right out of your fashion rut. Dress it down with a pair of Converse sneakers or dress it up with a pair of killer heels for instant versatile style.
Wearing white after Labour Day is definitely not as a big an issue as it used to be, so don’t be afraid to break some rules and have fun with fashion.
