Lately I’ve been having the feeling that every gospel song I hear is speaking directly to me! The lyrics just seem so real and deep to me. The repetition of the words and of course the music draws me in and closer to God. I’m starting to see the meaning so much clearer. Praise and worship are a huge part of life and I feel like I should incorporate them a lot more into my life.
“Now will your heart and soul say yes?” -Shekinah Glory
One song in particular is “Yes”, which is sung by Shekinah Glory. I remember the first time I heard this song at a church [Joy of Faith Christian Ministries, Pastor Dr. Samuel N. Smith] and I just remember the overwhelming feeling of wanting to cry out to God. I realized that God just wants each of us to simply say Yes! God wants us to come to him…turn our lives, hearts, and souls over to him. Let go of things that are hindering you from God. Say No to those things and Yes to God. The power of God and his love for me is deeply revealed in this song, I challenge you to pick up that smart phone or mac and Google this song.
“I need more of you…I need more of you…whatever I need to do to get to you, I’ll do” –Shekinah Glory
Another great song that just speaks to me is also sung by Shekinah Glory titled “I Need More”. The first time I heard this song was also at the church mentioned above during praise and worship. The lyrics are so true to my life and can be to others as well. Often times I feel like I need more of the word in my life and more of God’s love in my life. Music can not only help you realize these things are missing but can also reveal to you how to get more into your life. I believe God speaks to us in many ways not only through the Bible. Music especially is another way to directly infuse the word of God into your life. I’m sure most people can relate to the feeling you get when God is speaking to you. It’s life changing!
Now this last song I want to share with you is like a testimony for my life. As I sit here and type this I feel like I will begin to cry. I cry every time I hear this song and I just cannot help it. The first time I heard this song I just could not hold back tears because this is the inner struggle I’ve been having for so long. I write this a lot but I feel like it is time for me to just let go of every/anything that’s not about God. I feel like he has been calling me for so long and it’s time for me to pick up and accept God wholly.
“River rise….carry me back home. I cannot remember the way.” – India Arie
The song is titled “River Rise” by India Arie and I must add that the singing will move your spirit in such a way it’s pretty much hard to describe. I remember being on YouTube listening to some songs by India Arie and this song popped up on the side. I decided to play the song because at the time I had never heard it before. I can honestly say that I played the song over and over again. It spoke to me so much that I downloaded the song as a ringtone for my text messages so that I could hear it throughout the day.
I mention these songs because lately I can’t get them out of my head. They really speak to me and move my spirit. There are so many songs out there that may move you too! Please feel free to share them with me so that I can refer to them and share them with others. Remember that God will find many ways to express his love for you and his desire for you to follow his path. We simply must desire more of God and say yes to his will!
