What gets you in the mood to create? “I feel like I just have to. Sometimes I sit up til like 3 or 4 in the morning drawing, I just have to.”
Name a song that best describes you/your style. Why? Lately I’ve been listening to classical music. I got is from Jean Michael Basquiat’s documentary “The Radiant Child” I don’t do it all the time but it helps.
What kind of message do you want people to get from your art? “You gotta look real real far deep in your head. I don’t have clarity and I guess I want my work to show my lack of clarity. A lot of my work is surrounded by absence of everything but your conscious” “If you just make art, draw something, make something –as long as you do something you can make art. If you have something going on use that to fuel your work. Everyone can be an artist to some degree.”
Where do you plan to go with your art? “This is my life, my career, my goal. Its what I’ve wanted to do since pre-k. I wanna be that guy kids read about in college in the art appreciation books, my kids and grandkids look in a book and say ‘Hey, I know that guy!’ I want to be remembered.”
Tell us something our readers should know about you or your art “Don’t limit yourself. Whatever you do, do it times ten and use it until you break it. I really hope my message is conveyed because I’m goin in a whole different direction with my work and its slowly coming together. You have to learn about your past to figure out where your going and I feel that now I don’t need help anymore. I’m finding my own.”
