The Best Foods for Healthy, Clear Skin

The Best Foods for Healthy, Clear Skin

Neutrals

While skincare rituals provide benefits for your skin, what goes into your body has a massive effect on your complexion too. Cake and pizza are delicious treats, but they’re not the best foods to consume. For a healthy, clear complexion, eating the right foods will make a difference, so here are some of the most powerful skin boosters you’ll find at the grocery store.

foods-for-skin

Oily fish

Packed with omega 3 fatty acids, oily fish, such as tuna and mackerel contains anti-inflammatory properties that help to keep your skin clear. Omega 3 fats are also known as good fats that aid brain and heart health, so they’re perfect for looking after your body too!

Green tea

Green tea is bursting with antioxidants which help to increase blood flow and oxygen to the skin. Studies have shown that switching your diet to include green tea will improve your skins elasticity, texture, and diminish sun damage. If you want to add green tea to your skincare routine, try boiling a pot and waiting for it to cool. You can then pour it into a spritzer bottle to use as a refreshing facial toner.

Peppers

Vegetables containing antioxidants reduce free radicals, which are uncharged molecules that destroy cells to promote aging of the skin. Antioxidants help to neutralize these damaging molecules to prevent premature aging. Therefore, upping your intake of vegetables, such as peppers will promote a youthful complexion.

Oranges

Oranges, lemons and other citrus fruits boast high amounts of vitamin C, which boosts collagen in the skin. Collagen is a vital aspect in keeping the skin firm and supple, so remember to drink lots of fruit juice or snack on a piece of fruit to keep your skin looking healthy and radiant.

Sweet potato

Sweet potato has an abundance of benefits for the skin and health. A serving of sweet potatoes boasts vitamin C and beta-carotene. Beta-carotene turns to vitamin A when in the body, which helps to boost healthy skin cells. If you’re looking to achieve smoother, glowing skin then opt for foods rich in vitamin A and C.

Water

Possibly the most essential ingredient that the body needs, we require around 8 glasses of water per day. Water is vital for keeping the skin hydrated and healthy. When we are dehydrated, we are prone to dry or scaly skin. It’s also likely that we’ll suffer from headaches and tiredness too. Try to sip water continuously throughout the day to keep your skin soft and smooth.

Dark chocolate

If you want a sweet treat, go for the darker variety of chocolate. Dark chocolate is rich in antioxidants, which may help to encourage radiance and a younger looking complexion.

Single During Cuffing Season?

Pinks

Go ahead and call me basic, but Fall has got to be one of my favorite seasons of the year.

I can’t be the only one who loves when the leaves start changing color and the sweet scent of Pumpkin Spice Latte’s begins to waft out of every Starbucks within walking distance, can I?

Aside from my personal favorites, there are many other aspects of Fall that make it an exciting time of year for everyone. There’s the start of baseball season, football season and even cuffing season.

If you don’t know what cuffing season is, Urban Dictionary defines it as the time of year when, as the weather starts getting colder, “new relationships start and old relationships turn into engagements.”

To put it simply it’s the time of year when everywhere you turn, everyone is hooking up – except you.

Being single during cuffing season can be hard, but it doesn’t have to be. There are a number of benefits to being single that most people don’t notice because they’re too obsessed with the perceived notion of how great being in a relationship is when in reality….

Relationships are expensive.

When you’re dating another human being, it’s expected that you’ll dedicate at least a small amount of your time to enjoying their company.

While that’s nice and everything, think about how much money you could save on food, movie tickets, concert tickets and more if you were only buying for one.

It’s really a no brainer, when you’re single the only person you have to worry about treating is your self and wouldn’t you rather it be that way?

Relationships are restrictive.

Relationships are all about compromise, but there are times in your life when you may want to do whatever the hell YOU want to do.

When you’re single, you can do what you want, go where you want and even flirt with whomever you want.

Use this cuffing season to really find out who you are. When you’re not constantly trying to live up to the expectations of who someone else wants you to be, you are free to be yourself.

Relationships are fattening.

Let me clue you in on something, relationships make you fat. I say that because it seems like our dating lives are completely centered around food and no matter how hard we try, we can’t stop eating.

Whether you’re going to dinner, breakfast, brunch or lunch, when you’re in a relationship you somehow end up spending a large amount of time sitting across from each other at restaurants and a larger amount of time trying to fit back into your pre- relationship clothing, post breakup.

Okay I’ll admit it, sometimes being single sucks, but if you try to look on the bright side it doesn’t have to be all bad.

Are you booed up this cuffing season? Comment below!

Make Sure You Keep Your Skin Smooth and Healthy Looking By Exfoliating!

Neutrals

Now the season is changing, be sure to exfoliate your body. Your body has probably been on show for most of the Summer and now it’s going to be covered up in the colder weather. Don’t think that because it’s now covered up, you don’t have to exfoliate! Exfoliation isn’t just about summertime. Your skin needs pampering all year round!

Exfoliate Gloves 1

Exfoliating your body is very beneficial to you and your skin. Here are the main benefits:

  • It relieves dry /rough skin
  • You can get a closer shave
  • Your skin looks healthier
  • It unclogs your pores
  • Removes dead skin cells
  • Prevents your skin from breaking out into spots
  • Make your skin extra smooth and soft
  • Evens out our skin tone
  • Helps you apply your lotion evenly and therefore the lotion will be more effective
  • Also helps if you apply fake tan and prevents streaks

Try to exfoliate in the shower/bath at least once a week but don’t overdo it… this can cause irritation and dry skin.

Exfoliating is easier with the right products. Get yourself a lovely body scrub and some gloves.

With the benefits in mind, ensure that you stay exfoliated!

Having a few beauty items in your handbag can help to keep you fresh throughout the day. If you’ve got a small bag then you’ll only want to carry the essentials around with you. If you’re unsure as to what key items to carry with you, consider these following products.

handbag1

Hand sanitizer

This is a practical item to have, especially during the winter months. It will keep your hands clean and germ free. It’s also handy for cleaning up any beauty bits. Bath and Body Works have some luscious mini sanitizers that come in a range of delicious scents, and they fit into your handbag too.

A powder compact

If you have oily skin, a powder compact is a must have. It will help to refresh your makeup and hide any oil coming through your base makeup. Try using a pressed product like Clinique Stay Matte Sheer Pressed Powder, which has a sponge for easy application.

A lipstick

If you want a quick update to your makeup look, applying lipstick will make a difference. It’s also ideal for changing up your makeup before after work drinks, or if you are heading out to dinner straight from work. Try YSL Volupte Sheer Candy, a glossy sheer color that’s highly wearable. Alternatively, opt for Sephora Luster Matte Lip Color for a long lasting lip shade.

Fragrance

A fragrance will keep you smelling great throughout the day. You don’t need to carry around a large bottle of perfume. Instead, use a rollerball or travel size version, such as Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh Rollerball.

A nail file

Having a nail file in your bag will help during any nail breakage emergencies. Daimancel Mini Nail File is the perfect size to fit into any handbag.

A facial mist

If you have a spacious handbag, a facial mist makes a great addition. When the weather is hot and humid, using a facial mist will keep your skin feeling cool and fresh. First Aid Beauty Vitamin Hydrating Mist has an alcohol free formula, so it won’t dry your skin out. It will energize your complexion, and it can also be used to set your makeup. Evian Facial Spray is also a convenient facial mist to have, refreshing your skin from heat or dry air, as well as keeping your makeup looking fresh.

A hair brush

If you are going to get caught in the rain, wind, or even heat, a hair brush is a must have tool in your handbag. The Sephora Luxe Combo Travel Brush won’t take up much space in your bag, and it’ll smooth your hair in a minute.

A lip balm

If you’re suffering from a cold, or your skin becomes affected by the weather easily, a lip balm is the perfect solution. An effective balm will nourish, protect and soothe any dryness. The Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment is a great choice for any beauty lover.

5 Reasons to Stay Fit During Fall

5 Reasons to Stay Fit During Fall

Neutrals

Ladies, I know you’ll all pretty much agree when I say the Summer of 2015 is OVER. Now before you get all technical about it, I know that summer doesn’t officially end until September 22, but from what I can see all the signs point to it being just about gone. You know the signs I’m talking about, you can feel a slight chill in the air, school buses and kiddie carpools have taken over the morning commute and most importantly, you’ve magically put on a few pounds.

At the beginning of the summer, we were all pretty much dead-set on having a perfect bodies. However by the end of the summer it was obvious the majority of us chose to forgo fitness in favor of food, friends and fun. The scary part about this is that if we continue on this way, by the end of the year (especially after feasting on all the amazing holiday food) we may be so far removed from our fitness goals that we won’t even be able to dream about fitting into a bathing suit next summer.
Here’s five reasons why you should keep your summer workout routine going into fall.
Get Better Sleep
Don’t you try to deny it, we both know you partied pretty hard this summer and there’s no judgement over here because so did I.After being on the go nonstop for about three solid months, it should come as no surprise that your sleep schedule is a bit off and you may be feeling a bit more tired than usual.
Exercise will not only help you fall asleep faster, but will also improve the quality of your sleep. My only advice is that you refrain from exercising a few hours before bed because it stimulates your body in a way that may actually prevent you from getting a good night’s sleep.
Reduce Stress, Anxiety and Depression

This time of the year can trigger Seasonal Affective Disorder in some of us and honestly we can all get a bit stressed out and down from time to time because we’re only human.  Instead of wallowing in your feelings however, perhaps maintaining an exercise regime can help brighten your days.
When you exercise regularly, your body releases tons of feel good endorphins which are perfect for improving your mood and reducing negative feelings and emotions. Exercises like yoga are perfect for this, but if you notice you’ve been feeling down for a longer period of time than is usual, don’t hesitate to contact a medical professional.
Better Sex Life

During the colder months of the year we may all want to spend a little more time under the sheets if you know what I mean and regular exercise can help make your time spent unforgettable.
Increased blood circulation can improve your arousal and the increased strength and flexibility will have you doing things you’ve never dreamed of. As a bonus, your time in the bedroom can also count as a short workout session. Win!
Get Beautiful Skin

Beautiful skin is one thing that definitely shouldn’t be seasonal. Exercise increases circulation and reduces inflammation meaning that the improved blood flow will help carry waste products away from healthy cells and your skin cells will stay nourished and beautiful.
Increase Your Confidence

I can list a million reasons for keeping your summer workout routine that will make you want to hop on a treadmill A.S.A.P, but the most important reasons is it will make you feel more comfortable in your own skin.
Exercise doesn’t even have to be hard! All you need to see results is 45 minutes a day of moderate cardio, such as running or dancing, five days a week.

Autumn Is Coming! Autumn Tips!

Reds

Sadly Summer is drawing to end and Autumn is fast approaching. Before you can even think about what to wear for Autumn, it’s already here! All your Summer wardrobe is thrown to the back of the closet to make way for your Autumn outfits.

Don’t panic that you need to go out and buy new clothes. Everyone always panics and thinks that all their wardrobe is just full of Summer outfits and that’s where you’re wrong! You can always recycle your clothes into next season!

16.09.15 Recycle Your Clothes

My main tips are:

  • Double up! Wear a vest or a cropped Summer top over or under your layers! This will keep you warm too.
  • Chunky jumpers and socks. You finally get to wear your cozy chunky jumpers and socks!!! Yay!
  • Wear tights. Shorts, skirts and dresses aren’t just for the Summer, wear  your cozy tights with them to keep your legs warm! You can even jazz up your dull outfit with colourful tights!
  • Wear knee-high socks over tights for contrast!
  • When it comes to makeup, you can keep your Summer colours for a night out in Autumn or even when you want to feel fab in the day… just wear it!
  • Wear your sandals with socks or tights. This is trending right now from the High Street stores to the Catwalk! You go girl!
  • Wear a hat – you don’t have to think about your hair as much!

So guys, like I said, don’t panic and recycle if need be!

Ciao!

Are you looking for Mr or Miss Right?

Are you looking for Mr or Miss Right?

Pinks

Are you still looking for the one? Bored of being single and are ready to mingle???

Love

It’s claimed nowadays that women tend to focus more on their career then settling down and having a family. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with being driven and motivated by your job but people are forgetting about what matters the most… family! If you’re in a job you love and you’re successful, fair game to you but I think you still need to think about your personal life and not just your job.

I claim myself to be one of the lucky ones to have found my Mr Right a few years ago but I do have a few single friends that are desperately trying to find their Mr or Miss Right.

I’m not writing this to poke at any strong, career minded women; I have the upmost respect for them… I just want everyone to take a deep breath and really think about what makes you happy. As I always say, life is far too short so you must do whatever makes you smile and share the wonderful moments with another. Go out and party, mingle with crowds you would never dream of doing… who knows… you might find yours prefect partner there!

Breaking the Rules: How to Rock White After Labor Day

Breaking the Rules: How to Rock White After Labor Day

Reds
Now I don’t know about you, but I’ve been dying for a three day weekend and luckily for me Labor Day Weekend 2015 was EVERYTHING.
Labor Day, which was celebrated this year on Monday, September 7th, is a national holiday honoring the American labour movement and all of the hard workers in the USA.
In honor of being honored, I spent the weekend hanging out with friends, having one on one time with Netflix and paying a visit to every barbecue within a three block radius.
While enjoying all of the deliciously free food at a friend of a friend’s poolside barbecue party, I overheard two women in an intense argument with a man who just spilled barbecue sauce on one of their all white ensembles.
The man, who was very apologetic I may add, asked the women why they chose to wear all white attire to a barbecue party (cause you know, SAUCE), to which they replied “We had to because these outfits are brand new and you can’t wear white after Labor Day.”
I nearly choked on my potato salad when I heard that one because I just couldn’t believe there were still people alive who followed this fashion rule. I mean really?
I’m the type of girl who believes personal style > every fashion rule to ever exist. So if you’re like me and you know you’ll be wearing white after Labor Day and any other day you choose, read below.
White Blazer
For me, blazers are a wardrobe staple. I like to mix them up with everything from body con dresses to skinny jeans for a trendy, yet classic look. Lately, I haven’t been very inspired by the blazers in my closet and I think adding white may breath life back into my style. The white blazer shown above, is from LucLuc. You can also get the jeans from Topshop and the shirt from Yesstyle.com
White Jeans

I actually haven’t worn a pair of white jeans since I hit puberty in fear of you know who. But now that I’ve put my childish fears aside, I’m ready to revamp my style and add a new level of chic. Wear white jeans with a denim shirt and bold accessories for a look that works day and night.
Little White Dress
My closet is filled with more little black dresses than I care to admit to you right now. I used to wear them so much that they started to make me feel a little less than fabulous. When I decided to buy a little white dress I never knew just how much it would open me up to a new world of style possibilities. If you feel like I did, a Little White Dress can drag you right out of your fashion rut. Dress it down with a pair of Converse sneakers or dress it up with a pair of killer heels for instant versatile style.
Wearing white after Labour Day is definitely not as a big an issue as it used to be, so don’t be afraid to break some rules and have fun with fashion.

I’ll Be There for You, Cause You’re There for Me Too!

Pinks

Yes, you guessed it… the title is from the Friends theme song. Today’s theme is friends but not the programme but before I talk about friends, can you believe it’s been over 10 years since the programme ended?!

Friends

They say you can’t choose your family but you can choose your friends!

I don’t have a huge amount of close friends but the ones I do have, are so special to me. Every one of them has their own uniqueness and I wouldn’t swap them for the World!

We can go partying, shopping or just chilling and relaxing but I know they will be happy and comfortable.

You really do know who your friends when it comes down to it. I keep in touch with old school friends but we’ve all moved on and are different people now. I guess this happens a lot in life but some people do stay best of friends with their old school friends and that’s great but I’ve found that sometimes work and life gets in the way or people move away. Nevertheless, try to keep in touch!

Life is too short not to have fun so wherever you are in the World, make sure you choose great friends and enjoy all the good times!
