Blondie’s Custom Wigs

Blondie’s Custom Wigs

Neutrals

What started out as a last minute addition to a Halloween costume has blossomed into a new passion! Wig making!

This summer I fell in love with crochet. It was so easy to switch my hairstyle up & have a new do in 2hrs or less! I ran into a problem though. I had this HUGE hair -& I LOVE me some big hair- but this was so big I was struggling to pull shirts over my head & it didn’t even fit in a bonnet at night!

I thought if I could take this hair off at night it would make it sooooo much easier! Did a little research, headed to my local beauty supply & viola!

I noticed when buying a wig you’re at the mercy of the company in hopes they make the color wig you want -a problem I face often with blonde hair) & even if they do there’s still the issue of whether or not the store has it in stock. Instead of carrying pre-made wigs, each one is handmade & the color is customized to the customer.

The Infamous Charcoal Mask

The Infamous Charcoal Mask

If you’ve cried real tears or lost an eyebrow doing a DIY Charcoal mask, this video is for you!

I had a really bad breakout (I’ve always had acne prone skin) a few months ago which is why you guys haven’t gotten any videos from me.

I didn’t want to go outside, much less make Youtube videos, be seen during my radio show & going to events. But this wasn’t going to fix itself so I had to do something.

I tried the charcoal mask because it’s good for removing impurities and great for oily skin. I’ve been watching a lot of DIYs, talking to friends & my skincare expert & decided to try it. Yes, I shed a few thug tears, thankfully I didn’t lose an eyebrow but it still hurt like hell!! Masks are supposed to be relaxing! What’s relaxing about ripping glue off your face?!

I did some experimenting of my own & came up with this here! This mask has helped with my healing process & is PAIN FREE unlike those other DIY charcoal masks!

**If have acne prone skin, are allergic or unsure about using certain products on your face talk to your dermatologist or skincare professional before trying anything. When trying new products, test on a small area and wait to see your reaction before putting the product all over your face.**

If you try it out share the video & tag me in your pics @BlondiesLipstk on IG & Twitter!

Curly Hair Questions

Curly Hair Questions

Our hair does amazing things & there are so many textures, colors and types! “Black hair” encompasses a VERY broad spectrum so people, expand your mind beyond that teeny tiny box that says it’s either weave or it’s nappy.

I get that people don’t know but some things people ask are just ridiculous!! Here are some of the Curly Hair Questions I get almost daily:

Is that a wig?

Lol! No. & no you can’t touch it.

Can you do my hair like that?!

No, I’m not a hair stylist. But you can watch how I did it on YouTube.

How does your hair do that?

I went to bed with my hair twisted, plaited, knotted, rolled or contorted some kind of way & more than likely it was not cute. lol! Believe Beyonce if you want, I did not wake up like this!

Natural hair is expensive! How do you keep up with all this?

It’s actually about the same. The difference is you thought having natural hair was just going to be easy when in fact, it’s still maintenance & you’re still spending money

Who colors your hair?
Jesus. No, I’m serious. It really grows this way

So you must be mixed

Yeah, with Black & African American

Well then you have to be Albino!

😑 No, no I don’t & no I’m not. No offense to Albinos but just because someone has light skin with light it doesn’t automatically make them an Albino

Natural-Versary and Aunt Jackie’s CC Review

Natural-Versary and Aunt Jackie’s CC Review

Neutrals

This month marked 5yrs of me being on my natural hair journey!! 🙌

Lawd know this has not been has not been an easy one but definitely worth it!

I wanted to do a tutorial for you guys using Aunt Jackie’s Curls and Coils Flaxseed Recipes Collection… but I haven’t quite mastered how to record washing my hair in the shower. But I took pics throughout the process!

Here are the products that I used. Aunt Jackie’s Curls and Coils Flaxseed Collection is their newest line of products and are enriched with Flaxseed, Coconut, Apple Cider Vinegar, Mango Butter, Avocado, Shea Butter and more!

I started off with the Purify Me Moisturizing Co-Wash Cleanser to cleanse and condition my hair. I wore my last protective style for over 2 weeks so it needed the extra moisture. I like that this co-wash is not just conditioner, it also lathers and leaves my hair feeling clean but not stripped

I followed with the Fix My Hair Intensive Repair Conditioning Masque, coating my strands from root to ends and detangling in sections. I let it sit for 5 minutes and my curls were popping honi!

Next with my hair soaking wet I made about 8 sections, applied the Seal It Up Hydrating Sealing Butter, finger detangled once more and two-strand twisted my hair -adding a little more product on the ends.

img_7050
Before bed I pinned each twist criss-crossed them across my head to stretch them as they dried. The next morning I took them down and got these soft, yummy smelling coils!

I wanted more of a fro so that night I slept with my hair in a pineapple and in the morning I sprayed my hair with the Half & Half Hydrating Silkening Hair Milk, fluffed the coils and got this look

I continued to fluff, pic and moisturize my tresses with Half & Half Hydrating Silkening Hair Milk almost every morning along with a little water from my spray bottle and every other day adding some Seal It Up Hydrating Sealing Butter.

I finally achieved the stretched, fluffy fro I wanted! -I refused to post this until I did! lol! I’ve been getting compliments all day on how my hair looks and feels so soft and smells so good!

I recommend Aunt Jackie’s to all my naturalistas and curly girls out there! Especially the ones who have yet to find products that work for you and they smell AMAZING! For the guys with natural hair I highly suggest trying the Flaxseed Recipes Collection, it works well and the scent isn’t a tropical fruit bowl (which I LOVE), but instead it’s a pleasant neutral scent.

You guys tell me what you think about these styles, Aunt Jackie’s products and which styles I should try next! Leave a comment below, share this article and if you try Aunt Jackie’s Curls & Coils tag me in your pics @BlondiesLipstk! Also make sure you friend me on Facebook and subscribe to my youtube channel to watch all my latest videos!

It’s time for another review guys! I actually got this and the last box back to back -not a regular thing but I’m glad it happened cause it means more free stuff!

In this box I received the newest products from COVERGIRL cosmetics: Tru Naked eyeshadow palette, Plumpify Mascara by BlastPro and the Colorlicious Oh Sugar Lip Balm.

CG Infl products

Off the bat I was excited about the free stuff… but COVERGIRL is not my cup of tea & I hate giving negative reviews. So I cleared my mind of all the reasons I haven’t liked COVERGIRL products in the past & tried these babies out fair & square. Will they change my mind? Here are my thoughts

Moral of the story: Keep an open mind & Katy Perry’s commercial/jingle could sell ice to an eskimo. lol!

All the makeup in this review I got for free from COVERGIRL and Influenster, but all opinions are my own.

My first Dominican Blow Out

Now I know this isn’t a new trend but it’s new to me -being that it’s my first one- so Imma tell y’all about my experience. Plus I know a lot of naturals shy away from it because of how much heat has to be applied to the hair. The way I look at it, it’s the same as junk food: You can have that greasy fast food burger once in a while but everyday & you’re headed to an early grave. You can put heat to your natural hair periodically but everyday & you’re gonna burn it all off! Everything in moderation!

This straight hair is taking some getting use to but I’m loving it! But then again every time I straighten my hair I contemplate becoming a “straight natural”. Right now I just want the rain to stop so I can enjoy it!

Christmas Day my poor lil hair didn’t stand a chance against that humidity!

What styles did you guys rock for the holidays? & do you have any tips for me to help combat this humidity?!

The Best Foods for Healthy, Clear Skin

The Best Foods for Healthy, Clear Skin

Neutrals

While skincare rituals provide benefits for your skin, what goes into your body has a massive effect on your complexion too. Cake and pizza are delicious treats, but they’re not the best foods to consume. For a healthy, clear complexion, eating the right foods will make a difference, so here are some of the most powerful skin boosters you’ll find at the grocery store.

foods-for-skin

Oily fish

Packed with omega 3 fatty acids, oily fish, such as tuna and mackerel contains anti-inflammatory properties that help to keep your skin clear. Omega 3 fats are also known as good fats that aid brain and heart health, so they’re perfect for looking after your body too!

Green tea

Green tea is bursting with antioxidants which help to increase blood flow and oxygen to the skin. Studies have shown that switching your diet to include green tea will improve your skins elasticity, texture, and diminish sun damage. If you want to add green tea to your skincare routine, try boiling a pot and waiting for it to cool. You can then pour it into a spritzer bottle to use as a refreshing facial toner.

Peppers

Vegetables containing antioxidants reduce free radicals, which are uncharged molecules that destroy cells to promote aging of the skin. Antioxidants help to neutralize these damaging molecules to prevent premature aging. Therefore, upping your intake of vegetables, such as peppers will promote a youthful complexion.

Oranges

Oranges, lemons and other citrus fruits boast high amounts of vitamin C, which boosts collagen in the skin. Collagen is a vital aspect in keeping the skin firm and supple, so remember to drink lots of fruit juice or snack on a piece of fruit to keep your skin looking healthy and radiant.

Sweet potato

Sweet potato has an abundance of benefits for the skin and health. A serving of sweet potatoes boasts vitamin C and beta-carotene. Beta-carotene turns to vitamin A when in the body, which helps to boost healthy skin cells. If you’re looking to achieve smoother, glowing skin then opt for foods rich in vitamin A and C.

Water

Possibly the most essential ingredient that the body needs, we require around 8 glasses of water per day. Water is vital for keeping the skin hydrated and healthy. When we are dehydrated, we are prone to dry or scaly skin. It’s also likely that we’ll suffer from headaches and tiredness too. Try to sip water continuously throughout the day to keep your skin soft and smooth.

Dark chocolate

If you want a sweet treat, go for the darker variety of chocolate. Dark chocolate is rich in antioxidants, which may help to encourage radiance and a younger looking complexion.

Trust Me, You Need A Compact Mirror in your Life!

Trust Me, You Need A Compact Mirror in your Life!

Neutrals

I overheard a conversation the other day about a girl who doesn’t have a compact mirror. She said she’s always borrowing someone else’s. I thought I was hearing things. To me, this is hard to take in and to digest. I couldn’t possibly live without a compact mirror in my handbag! This is like saying Anna Wintour cannot wear sunglasses again! Shocking I know.

Mirror

I’m not saying that I’m so vain and that I need to check myself out every 30 seconds… But it’s for peace of mind too. Not only are they for the self-loving people out there (you know who you are) but for people who have food in their teeth, something in their eye etc. Hmmmm… OK, are my reasons good enough?! I give in… of course us girlies and guys like to check ourselves out occasionally and when we touch up our makeup, it’s good to have a mirror whenever we are. We could be on a train, a bus, in a coffee shop, waiting for someone, waiting for a plane at the airport but still have a mirror handy!

There are lots of compact mirrors on the market, ranging from cheap to high-end.  I know what people are thinking right now, “but a mirror’s a mirror”… wrong (in a way). Of course a mirror is a mirror but there are complementary mirrors and there are some bad mirrors that make you look awful! I hope people understand when I say that?!

Pop to your local shop and try out their mirror and you’ll see the difference.
