Curly Hair Questions

Curly Hair Questions

Neutrals

Our hair does amazing things & there are so many textures, colors and types! “Black hair” encompasses a VERY broad spectrum so people, expand your mind beyond that teeny tiny box that says it’s either weave or it’s nappy.

I get that people don’t know but some things people ask are just ridiculous!! Here are some of the Curly Hair Questions I get almost daily:

Is that a wig?

Lol! No. & no you can’t touch it.

Can you do my hair like that?!

No, I’m not a hair stylist. But you can watch how I did it on YouTube.

How does your hair do that?

I went to bed with my hair twisted, plaited, knotted, rolled or contorted some kind of way & more than likely it was not cute. lol! Believe Beyonce if you want, I did not wake up like this!

Natural hair is expensive! How do you keep up with all this?

It’s actually about the same. The difference is you thought having natural hair was just going to be easy when in fact, it’s still maintenance & you’re still spending money

Who colors your hair?
Jesus. No, I’m serious. It really grows this way

So you must be mixed

Yeah, with Black & African American

Well then you have to be Albino!

😑 No, no I don’t & no I’m not. No offense to Albinos but just because someone has light skin with light it doesn’t automatically make them an Albino

Rare Traits in Dark-skinned PeopleTwo naturally-occurring rare characteristics in dark-skinned people: blue eyes and blonde hair.

Who Stole What Now?!

Who Stole What Now?!

Plums

This generation is doomed.

Not the babies just being born but the ones in grade school right now, these 90’s babies. They got the game, the players, & life in general all effed up!

I was doing my usual peruse through the Shade Room & came across this:

MiMi put it nicer than I EVER could have! My response would’ve been along the lines of “Oh you poor, sad, ignant, misguided child! You should use the same phone you used to type that bulls**t to google ‘braids’ or ‘cornrows’, see who’s pictures pop up, learn something & then #sitdownandshutup”
So child -lawd I hope that’s a child & not somebody grown- you mean to tell me that you grew up with the Internet, have it at your fingertips, but you REFUSE to use it!! Google is not your enemy! & she’s always free .99!!

From Kendall Jenners “bold braids” to Kim & Khloe’s trendsetting boxer braids

*insert the most dramatic eye roll ever seen*

Just because your “fave” wears or does something doesn’t mean they’re the originators. Hell just looking at the Kardashian-Jenner clan from the first years of the show to now you can see there isn’t much original period!

& no, I’m not hating. From time to time I too find myself keeping up with the Kardashian’s. The problem is when we (African Americans) do something it’s less than but when a white woman does it it’s now “trendsetting, unique and bold”!

Chile Bye

If you walk up to a random black woman on the street 9.99 times outta 10 she wore braids as a child, has some right now (under her weave counts) or plans on getting some for the summer.

Amandla Stenberg said it best but the main thing I want y’all to do is your research before you try to come for somebody -keyboard killers & thumb thugs especially!

Oh, also I need you to know & recognize that #BlackGirlMagic is real. We are beautiful, our hair defies gravity, our melanin is popping and you’re mad.  We don’t need your permission to do or be anything & whether have agree or choose to be bitter this movement ain’t goin nowhere.

What He Really Deserves

What He Really Deserves

Plums

Saw this on IG & figured I’d share my thoughts

Aside from the typos I think the post is valid. I agree with being your partner’s source of solace not stress. I sing every lyric of Destiny’s Child’s “Cater To You”. I’m the girl that knows she’s gonna spoil her husband & he is gonna thank sweet baby Jesus everyday & night to have found a catch like me!

However, there’s always that sneaking thought that what you do is will never be good enough:

Yeah… lol! I’m not to the extreme mindset of @Only1_Ms_Stylisk but sometimes, yeah! You can believe you’re in this great relationship & things are picture perfect but in reality he’s out here slanging his wang to every Jill, Dawn & Nancy on the street!

So how do you determine if your man is good enough that deserves to be treated like a king?

The answer is simple: he will show you!

Of course that’s easier said than done. When you first get in a relationship people show you what they want you to see, so he’s gonna be prince charming -and you’ll put on your best act as well. You haven’t seen the real him so why would you spoil him with your best sex (or any sex for that matter), breakfast in bed, massages, home cooked meals, etc? Not saying you can’t do any of that for him but damn, you don’t hafta put all your cards on the table so soon! And I know it’s hard, especially when he’s showing you everything you’ve been wanting! Trust me I’ve been there, I’ve been that girl! I was all about playing wifey thinking if I show him what I all I can be for him upfront he’s gonna want to hold on to me even more! Nah! Majority of the time they just enjoyed the cow & the milk that they got for free & moved on to the next girl. Smh.

There are benefits to that though. As time went on those same guys ended up wanting that ol thing back but by then I had come to my senses and moved on! You snooze you lose! I’ve since learned  that while having an ex come crawling back feels pretty nice, not wasting my time on f**k boys in the first place would have saved me so much head & heart aches. I didn’t let those relationships ruin me as a “good woman”, I’ve been screwed over plenty of times (& put up with the bs that eventually got me screwed over) but I’m not gonna take that out on the next man.

So how do you determine what he deserves? Let him earn that spot in your life! Every person in any type of relationship you have will show you what position they deserve in your life. Pay attention to that & react accordingly.

Natural-Versary and Aunt Jackie’s CC Review

Natural-Versary and Aunt Jackie’s CC Review

Neutrals

This month marked 5yrs of me being on my natural hair journey!! 🙌

Lawd know this has not been has not been an easy one but definitely worth it!

I wanted to do a tutorial for you guys using Aunt Jackie’s Curls and Coils Flaxseed Recipes Collection… but I haven’t quite mastered how to record washing my hair in the shower. But I took pics throughout the process!

Here are the products that I used. Aunt Jackie’s Curls and Coils Flaxseed Collection is their newest line of products and are enriched with Flaxseed, Coconut, Apple Cider Vinegar, Mango Butter, Avocado, Shea Butter and more!

I started off with the Purify Me Moisturizing Co-Wash Cleanser to cleanse and condition my hair. I wore my last protective style for over 2 weeks so it needed the extra moisture. I like that this co-wash is not just conditioner, it also lathers and leaves my hair feeling clean but not stripped

I followed with the Fix My Hair Intensive Repair Conditioning Masque, coating my strands from root to ends and detangling in sections. I let it sit for 5 minutes and my curls were popping honi!

Next with my hair soaking wet I made about 8 sections, applied the Seal It Up Hydrating Sealing Butter, finger detangled once more and two-strand twisted my hair -adding a little more product on the ends.

img_7050
Before bed I pinned each twist criss-crossed them across my head to stretch them as they dried. The next morning I took them down and got these soft, yummy smelling coils!

I wanted more of a fro so that night I slept with my hair in a pineapple and in the morning I sprayed my hair with the Half & Half Hydrating Silkening Hair Milk, fluffed the coils and got this look

I continued to fluff, pic and moisturize my tresses with Half & Half Hydrating Silkening Hair Milk almost every morning along with a little water from my spray bottle and every other day adding some Seal It Up Hydrating Sealing Butter.

I finally achieved the stretched, fluffy fro I wanted! -I refused to post this until I did! lol! I’ve been getting compliments all day on how my hair looks and feels so soft and smells so good!

I recommend Aunt Jackie’s to all my naturalistas and curly girls out there! Especially the ones who have yet to find products that work for you and they smell AMAZING! For the guys with natural hair I highly suggest trying the Flaxseed Recipes Collection, it works well and the scent isn’t a tropical fruit bowl (which I LOVE), but instead it’s a pleasant neutral scent.

You guys tell me what you think about these styles, Aunt Jackie’s products and which styles I should try next! Leave a comment below, share this article and if you try Aunt Jackie’s Curls & Coils tag me in your pics @BlondiesLipstk! It’s time for another review guys! I actually got this and the last box back to back -not a regular thing but I’m glad it happened cause it means more free stuff!

In this box I received the newest products from COVERGIRL cosmetics: Tru Naked eyeshadow palette, Plumpify Mascara by BlastPro and the Colorlicious Oh Sugar Lip Balm.

CG Infl products

Off the bat I was excited about the free stuff… but COVERGIRL is not my cup of tea & I hate giving negative reviews. So I cleared my mind of all the reasons I haven’t liked COVERGIRL products in the past & tried these babies out fair & square. Will they change my mind? Here are my thoughts

Moral of the story: Keep an open mind & Katy Perry’s commercial/jingle could sell ice to an eskimo. lol!

All the makeup in this review I got for free from COVERGIRL and Influenster, but all opinions are my own.

My favorite items from the box were the beauty products! Don’t get me wrong, the treats were great too! But the beauty products last longer. lol!

For those who requested it, it’s long overdue but hey, better late than never! lol!

It’s my first Get Ready With Me & don’t worry, it won’t be my last!

So I was getting ready to go out & I love me some lashes when it’s time for me to hit these ATL streets! -or just when I wanna be Fabu *dramatic hair flip* lol! So I got the KISS True Volume Lashes in style “Posh” & Black Strip Lash Adhesive with Aloe. Now I’ve only been wearing lashes for a few months & I’ve only used white/clear glue so I was a little apprehensive -but it looked great! I barely needed any eyeliner!

  Follow me on Snapchat!: BlondiesLipstk

I loved my look & I loved my lashes!! They were so lightweight that I forgot I had them on! They also look natural so they’re great for everyday use! -which I love because I can’t wait to wear them again!

You can find these lashes for yourself for less than $4 at Walmart (yes, you read that right!)

I received the KISS True Volume Lashes and Black Strip Lash Adhesive with Aloe complimentary for testing purposes. All opinions are honest & my own.

My first Dominican Blow Out

Now I know this isn’t a new trend but it’s new to me -being that it’s my first one- so Imma tell y’all about my experience. Plus I know a lot of naturals shy away from it because of how much heat has to be applied to the hair. The way I look at it, it’s the same as junk food: You can have that greasy fast food burger once in a while but everyday & you’re headed to an early grave. You can put heat to your natural hair periodically but everyday & you’re gonna burn it all off! Everything in moderation!

This straight hair is taking some getting use to but I’m loving it! But then again every time I straighten my hair I contemplate becoming a “straight natural”. Right now I just want the rain to stop so I can enjoy it!

Christmas Day my poor lil hair didn’t stand a chance against that humidity!

What styles did you guys rock for the holidays? & do you have any tips for me to help combat this humidity?!
